fresh un-husked corn on the cob

Steps:

  • 1. For the oven : preheat @ 350° place un-husked corn on the middle oven rack and bake for 15 minutes ;( no need to moisten down the corn) the husk will get shriveled and crisp but the corn will stay juicy in the center.
  • 2. For the microwave : place 2-3 ears of un-husked corn on the cob in the microwave and set on high level , Cook for 5-8 minutes (depending on how many ears of corn your cooking at one time) ; turning over 1/2 way through cooking time.
  • 3. To check the corn for doneness : Peel back the husk and see if the corn is tender , if so then remove all husk and silk and enjoy !

KETTLE CORN (MICROWAVE)

Kettle Corn (Microwave) image

This is a variation of Alton Brown's microwave popcorn recipe. You will need a brown paper lunch bag, a stapler, two staples from said stapler, and the cajones to do something you have been told to never do. Put metal in the microwave box of death! I promise that if you only use TWO NORMAL size staples, your microwave wont blow up, catch fire, or send you back in time so you could accidentally become your own grandparent. The wavelength of a microwave is larger than a average staple, so it wont spark, but it will get really freaking hot, so be careful. Oh, it taste great .

Time 3m

Yield 4-5 cups popped popcorn, 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

1/4 cup popcorn (unpopped)
1 tablespoon sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt (popcorn salt if you have it)
2 teaspoons vegetable oil

Steps:

  • mix everything in a small bowl.
  • pour everything into the small brown paper bag.
  • fold top over twice. (Maybe three times if you have the larger size lunch bags).
  • put two staples through fold at least two inches apart.
  • Microwave on high for at least two minutes. You may have to play around with the time a little. If you microwave has a "popcorn" button, try that, but listen for when the popping slows down.
  • when it's done, carefully open the bag, watching for the steam, and dump into a bowl. The bag will be an oily mess, so you don't want to eat out of it.

Tips:

  • Choose fresh and sweet corn: Look for ears with tightly packed kernels and no blemishes. Fresh corn will have a slightly milky liquid when you pierce a kernel with your fingernail.
  • Remove the husks and silks: Pull back the husks and remove the silks by hand. You can also use a vegetable brush to remove any remaining silks.
  • Cut the corn off the cob: Use a sharp knife to cut the kernels off the cob. You can also use a corn stripper to make this task easier.
  • Add your favorite seasonings: You can season the corn with salt, pepper, butter, or any other herbs and spices you like.
  • Microwave the corn for a few minutes: Cook the corn in the microwave for a few minutes until it is heated through. The exact cooking time will depend on the amount of corn you are cooking and the power of your microwave.
  • Enjoy the corn: Serve the corn hot and enjoy it as a side dish or as part of a main meal.
