This recipe came from an old Amish cookbook of mine. It tastes like an oatmeal cookie. It stores well in the refrigerator and can be reheated in the microwave and served with milk. This has to sit overnight, so plan accordingly. It is well worth the wait, however!

Tips:

  • Choose the right oats. Old-fashioned rolled oats are the best choice for baked oatmeal because they hold their shape and texture well. Quick-cooking oats can also be used, but they will result in a softer, mushier oatmeal.
  • Use a baking dish that is at least 2 inches deep. This will allow the oatmeal to rise and bake evenly.
  • Don't overmix the batter. Overmixing can make the oatmeal tough.
  • Bake the oatmeal until it is set in the center. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean.
  • Let the oatmeal cool for a few minutes before serving. This will allow it to set and firm up.
  • Serve the oatmeal with your favorite toppings. Some popular toppings include brown sugar, maple syrup, butter, fruit, and nuts.

Conclusion:

Baked oatmeal is a delicious and hearty breakfast that can be enjoyed all year round. It is easy to make and can be customized to your liking. With a little planning, you can even make baked oatmeal ahead of time and reheat it for a quick and easy breakfast on busy mornings.
