MICHAEL SYMON'S BACON AND ONION JAM

Michael Symon's Bacon and Onion Jam image

This is not my recipe, I saw Michael Symon cook this on The Chew. He made a grilled cheese with it but I put it on a sandwich made with grilled pork loin and barbeque sauce then grilled it like a grilled cheese. Very good. I was ask to post this recipe is the reason I am posting a Michael Symon recipe.

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 10

1/2 lb bacon, chopped
2 yellow onions, sliced thin
3 clove garlic, minced, i used garlic in jar
2 sprig(s) thyme, leave, i used dried thyme
1/4 c apple cider vinegar
2 Tbsp brown sugar
1 Tbsp mustard seed, i used dried mustard powder
1/4 c beer or water
1 Tbsp olive oil
salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  • 1. Over medium heat cook bacon until crisp. Remove from skillet. Add onions to skillet in bacon fat and cook over low heat 12-15 minutes or until caramelized stirring occasionally. When done pour off excess fat. Add remaining ingredients to onions, except bacon. Simmer until liquid is reduced by 2/3rds and looks like jam. Remove from heat and stir in bacon.

Tips:

  • Choose high-quality brats. Look for brats that are made with fresh, high-quality pork and that have a good amount of fat. This will help ensure that the brats are juicy and flavorful.
  • Use a variety of beers. Different beers will give the brats different flavors. For a classic beer brat, use a light lager or pilsner. For a more flavorful brat, use a darker beer, such as a stout or porter.
  • Don't overcook the brats. Brats are best when they are cooked to an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit. Overcooking will make the brats dry and tough.
  • Serve the brats with your favorite toppings. Classic toppings for beer brats include sauerkraut, mustard, and onions. You can also get creative and try different toppings, such as bacon, cheese, or relish.
  • Make the bacon-onion chutney ahead of time. The chutney can be made up to a week in advance and stored in the refrigerator. This will save you time on the day you're serving the brats.

Conclusion:

Michael Symon's Beer Brats with Bacon-Onion Chutney is a delicious and easy-to-make recipe that is perfect for a summer cookout. The brats are juicy and flavorful, and the chutney adds a sweet and tangy flavor. This recipe is sure to be a hit with your family and friends.
