Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
- Heat 4 tablespoons butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onions, chopped anchovies, thyme, salt and pepper and cook until the onions are sweet and golden brown, about 20 minutes.
- Meanwhile, holding the knife parallel to the cutting board, shave off the rounded top and bottom of the baguette with a serrated knife so that it lies flat. Then cut the baguette in half lengthwise to make 2 long slices of bread. Brush both sides of each with the remaining 4 tablespoons butter.
- When the onions are cooked, put the bread slices on a baking sheet and spread with the onions. Garnish with olives and drizzle with olive oil. Place in the oven and bake until the bread is crispy, about 15 minutes. Shower with Parmigiano. Cut into pieces and serve hot.
- Serve the onion toasts alongside an assortment of Italian meats.

SLOW-COOKER CARAMELIZED ONION DIP
With sweet, melty onions mixed into a creamy base and brought to life with a couple of savory ingredients, this luscious dip will keep everyone hovering around the bowl and, in between bites, talking to each other about how good it is! And since that's what parties are all about, we think this is the recipe you need next time you entertain. The inspiration behind this recipe was the crowd-favorite onion dip that you buy in a tub at the grocery store, but our goal wasn't simply to replicate. While we wanted to hit the same savory and rich notes of the original dip, we also wanted to create something new that would be worth the effort to make from scratch, without demanding too much effort. This wasn't too big a challenge for the Betty Crocker Test Kitchen experts, who came up with the idea of caramelizing onions in a slow cooker, so all you really have to do is chop the onions and forget about them for the rest of the day. With such a flavorful base, it doesn't take much to round out the recipe: cream cheese, a little mayo, fresh herbs, a dash of soy sauce-that's really all there is to it. Next time you have people coming around, give this recipe a try.

Yield Makes 12 hors d'oeuvres

Steps:
- Preheat broiler.
- Stir together onion and mayonnaise. Arrange bread slices in 1 layer on a baking sheet and broil 6 inches from heat until lightly toasted (watch carefully). Remove from oven and turn toasts over. Spread evenly with onion mixture and sprinkle with cheese and freshly ground pepper.
- Broil hors d'oeuvres until topping is bubbling and lightly browned, 1 to 2 minutes (watch carefully to prevent burning).
- Serve warm.
Tips:
- Use high-quality bread: A good, sturdy bread will hold up to the weight of the toppings and won't get soggy.
- Slice the bread evenly: This will help the toasts cook evenly.
- Use a generous amount of butter: This will help the bread to brown and crisp.
- Don't overcrowd the pan: Cook the toasts in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding the pan.
- Keep an eye on the toasts: They can burn quickly, so watch them closely while they're cooking.
- Top the toasts with your favorite toppings: Some popular options include cheese, eggs, avocado, and tomatoes.
Conclusion:
Melty onion toasts are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or snack. They're perfect for a party or a casual get-together. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a dish that everyone will love. Serve them immediately while they're still hot and gooey. Enjoy!
