Time 25m

Yield 10 cups

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 honeydew melon, cubed
1/2 cup Mint Simple Syrup, recipe follows
Juice of 1/2 lime
Seltzer, for serving, optional
1 cup sugar
3 sprigs fresh mint

Steps:

  • In a high-powered blender, combine the honeydew and 1 cup water and blend until completely smooth (see Cook's Note). Transfer to a pitcher and stir in the Mint Simple Syrup and lime juice. Add more water or seltzer to taste.
  • In a small pot over medium heat, add the sugar and 1 cup water and cook, stirring, until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from the heat, add the mint and let steep for 5 to 10 minutes. Strain out the mint and refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.

Tips:

  • Select ripe melons: Choose melons that are heavy for their size, have a deep color, and yield to gentle pressure. Avoid melons with bruises or blemishes.
  • Chill ingredients before blending: Chilling the melon, water, and lime juice before blending will help create a refreshing and icy agua fresca.
  • Adjust sweetness to taste: If you prefer a sweeter agua fresca, add more honey or agave nectar to taste. You can also use ripe bananas or other sweet fruits to naturally sweeten the drink.
  • Add a variety of flavors: Experiment with different flavor combinations by adding herbs like mint or basil, or spices like ginger or cinnamon. You can also add a splash of citrus juice, such as orange or grapefruit, for a tangy twist.
  • Garnish for presentation: Garnish your agua fresca with slices of melon, lime wedges, or fresh mint leaves for a visually appealing presentation.

Conclusion:

Melon agua fresca is a refreshing, hydrating, and delicious drink that is perfect for hot summer days. It is easy to make with just a few simple ingredients, and it can be customized to your liking.
