MEAN GREEN CUCUMBER JUICE

Mean Green Cucumber Juice image

A Jamaican recipe made by Sunny Anderson on Cooking for Real. Some reviewers on another website recommend adding a twist of lime at the end and decreasing the amount of sugar from 2 cups down to 1 cup (but I will leave those choices up to you). Sunny also said that she has added vodka to this beautiful, bright green juice for a wonderful adult cocktail.

MEAN GREEN JUICE (FOR JUICER)

Mean Green Juice (For Juicer) image

This is the recipe for "Mean Green" juice used in the documentary "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead." I was a little nervous about trying it -- I couldn't imagine that a juice with kale in it would be palatable -- but it turned out to be delicious! That film has really gotten us into juicing.

Time 17m

Yield 2 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 cucumber (I peeled it)
4 celery ribs
2 apples, cored
6 -8 kale leaves
1/2 lemon (rind removed)
1 tablespoon fresh ginger (I used about 1-inch of the root)

Steps:

  • Wash all ingredients thoroughly.
  • Run through juicer and enjoy! Great over ice.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cucumbers: Use fresh, organic cucumbers for the best flavor and nutrients. English cucumbers are a good choice because they have fewer seeds and a milder flavor.
  • Prep your cucumbers properly: Wash the cucumbers thoroughly and peel them if desired. Cut the cucumbers into chunks or slices for easier juicing.
  • Add other healthy ingredients: Experiment with different fruits and vegetables to create a variety of green juices. Some popular additions include apples, celery, spinach, kale, and ginger.
  • Use a quality juicer: A good juicer will extract the maximum amount of juice from your cucumbers and other ingredients. Look for a juicer that is easy to use and clean.
  • Drink your juice fresh: Cucumber juice is best enjoyed fresh. Drink it immediately after juicing, or store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.

Conclusion:

Cucumber juice is a refreshing and healthy way to boost your intake of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. It can help to improve hydration, digestion, and overall well-being. Whether you're looking to detox, lose weight, or simply improve your health, cucumber juice is a great addition to your daily routine. So next time you're looking for a healthy and refreshing drink, reach for a glass of cucumber juice!
