ELAINE'S HOT MARYLAND CRAB DIP

Elaine's Hot Maryland Crab Dip image

Elaine is my friend Kelly's mom and she makes a wonderful hot crab dip. Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 10

16 oz (2 pkgs) cream cheese
1 c sour cream
5 Tbsp mayonnaise
2 Tbsp lemon juice (or the juice of 1/2 lemon)
2 tsp worcestershire sauce
1 tsp dry mustard
1 tsp garlic powder
1 lb canned crab meat
1/2 c shredded white cheddar cheese
Sprinkle of old bay seasoning or paprika

Steps:

  • 1. Measure the cream cheese, sour cream, mayo, lemon juice, worcestershire sauce, dry mustard, and garlic powder directly into a large mixing bowl. Using a mixer, beat all ingredients together until well-blended.
  • 2. In a separate bowl, pick through the crab meat, looking for and removing any shell pieces.
  • 3. Add the crab to the mixing bowl, along with the shredded white cheddar cheese. Fold GENTLY to incorporate the crab & cheese with the other ingredients. (If you're using lump crab meat, you'll want to keep the lumps!)
  • 4. Spray a baking dish with cooking spray. GENTLY pour the mixed ingredients into the baking dish. Now, if you like Old Bay seasoning, sprinkle it over the top. (If you REALLY like Old Bay, you might even stir some in first.) If you're not an Old Bay fan, you can sprinkle on some paprika, if you want. Just for "pretty."
  • 5. Bake at 350 degrees F for 25-30 minutes, until the dip is melted and bubbly.
  • 6. Serve hot with savory crackers, flatbread pieces, or toasted bread points.
  • 7. ESPECIALLY YUMMY OPTION: Maryland Crab Pretzel Spoon crab dip over a large soft pretzel, then top with shredded cheese. Bake until cheese melts. Pull apart to eat. =^..^=

Categories     Shellfish

Yield 10-12 people

Number Of Ingredients 10

8 ounces of fresh back fin blue crab meat
1/4 cup mayonnaise
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup sharp cheddar cheese
2 garlic cloves
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 tablespoon grated fresh onion
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
3/4 teaspoon dry mustard
Sprinkle of Old Bay Seasoning

Steps:

  • 1. Soften cream cheese 2. Mix together cream cheese, mayonnaise, lemon juice, onion, Worcestershire, dry mustard and garlic 3. Fold in crab meat 4. Sprinkle cheese on top 5. Put in a 8x8 baking dish 4. Bake at 325 until bubbly (approx. 30 minutes) 6. Serve with baguette slices

Tips:

  • Use fresh crab meat. Fresh crab meat has a sweeter, more delicate flavor than canned crab meat. If you can't find fresh crab meat, you can use canned crab meat, but be sure to drain it well and pick through it to remove any shells or cartilage.
  • Don't overcook the crab dip. Crab dip is best when it is cooked just until it is heated through. Overcooking the crab dip will make it tough and rubbery.
  • Serve the crab dip with your favorite dippers. Crab dip is delicious served with crackers, bread, vegetables, or chips.
  • Garnish the crab dip with fresh herbs or a sprinkle of Old Bay seasoning. This will add a pop of color and flavor to the dish.

Conclusion:

Maryland crab dip is a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer that is perfect for any occasion. With its creamy, cheesy texture and flavorful blend of crab, Old Bay seasoning, and other spices, this dip is sure to be a hit with your guests. So next time you're looking for a delicious and crowd-pleasing appetizer, give Maryland crab dip a try.
