MARINATED GRILLED TUNA STEAK

The secret to a perfect tuna steak is to cook it as you would a rare or medium-rare steak, overcooking will produce a tough dry fish, the center needs to be pink -- plan ahead the steaks need to marinade for 8-24 hours, prep time includes refrigeration time --- I have made this in the past many times it is *very* good!

Time 2h10m

Number Of Ingredients 5

MARINADE
1/4 c each lime juice, fresh cilantro chopped and soy sauce
2 Tbsp olive oil
3 clove garlic minced
2 6 oz fresh tuna steaks

Steps:

  • 1. Mix the marinating ingredients together. Add the tuna steaks and let marinate at least 2 hours.
  • 2. Remove steaks from marinade. Discard the marinade. Sear the steaks in a little olive oil or grill. Usually about 4 or 5 minutes per side. Let rest 5 minutes.

Tips:

  • Select High-Quality Tuna: Opt for sushi-grade or sashimi-grade tuna steaks to ensure freshness and quality.
  • Properly Clean the Tuna: Rinse the tuna steaks under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels before marinating.
  • Use a Flavorful Marinade: Experiment with various marinade recipes to infuse the tuna with different flavors. The article provides several marinade options, including Asian, Mediterranean, and Cajun-inspired.
  • Marinate for Optimal Flavor: Allow the tuna steaks to marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 24 hours, to allow the flavors to penetrate the fish.
  • Cook to Desired Doneness: Depending on your preference, cook the tuna steaks to your desired level of doneness. Rare tuna has a pink center, while medium-rare has a slightly cooked center, and well-done tuna is cooked throughout.
  • Rest Before Serving: After cooking, let the tuna steaks rest for a few minutes before serving. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the fish, resulting in a more tender and flavorful bite.

Marinated tuna steaks offer a delicious and versatile main course option that can be enjoyed for lunch or dinner.
