Time 35m

Yield 48 bars

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 cup butter, softened
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 egg yolk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups flour
4 -5 Heath candy bars or 4 -5 Skor candy bars, crushed (divided use)
1/2 cup finely chopped pecans

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • In a large bowl, beat butter well and blend in sugar, egg yolk and vanilla.
  • Mix in flour, 2/3 cup HEATH bars and nuts by hand.
  • Press into ungreased 10 x 15 inch cookie sheet.
  • Bake 18- 20 minutes or until browned.
  • Immediately sprinkle remaining HEATH bars evenly over top.
  • Cool slighty and cut into bars while still warm.

Tips:

  • Mise en Place: Before you start cooking, make sure you have all the ingredients and equipment you need. This will help you stay organized and prevent any scrambling later on.
  • Use Quality Ingredients: The better the ingredients you use, the better your Heath bars will turn out. Look for high-quality chocolate and butter, and fresh nuts.
  • Don't Overcook the Sugar Mixture: Keep a close eye on the sugar mixture as it cooks. You want it to reach a light amber color, but not too dark. Otherwise, your Heath bars will be too hard.
  • Let the Heath Bars Cool Completely: Before you cut and serve the Heath bars, let them cool completely. This will help them set and hold their shape.
