Provided by Carol Parkhurst

Time 50m

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 box brownie mix
1 c walnuts, chopped [optional]
1/3 c sugar or splenda
1 8 oz. pkg. low-fat cream cheese
1 egg
2 Tbsp all purpose flour
1/4 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 c milk chocolate chips

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9x13 baking pan lightly w/cooking spray.
  • 2. Prepare the brownie mix as directed on the package. Adding the walnuts [optional]. Pour into the baking pan. [do not bake yet]
  • 3. In a medium bowl, cream the softened cream cheese and sugar until well blended. Add the egg, flour, baking powder and vanilla; mix until smooth.
  • 4. Pour the cream cheese mixture over the brownie mix; cut through with a knife For a marbled effect.
  • 5. Sprinkle top with the chocolate chips.
  • 6. Bake for 35-45 minutes until lightly browned.
  • 7. Cool; cut into squares. [After cooling, for a neater presentable cut bar; I trim about 1/2 inch all around the pan. Remove it and use it to snack on OR can be crumbled on top of ice cream [either way kids love this]

Tips:

  • For a moist and fudgy brownie, use a higher ratio of butter to flour. Aim for a ratio of 1:2 or even 1:1.5.
  • Use high-quality chocolate. The better the chocolate, the better the brownies will be. Choose a chocolate with a cocoa content of at least 70%.
  • Don't overmix the batter. Overmixing will result in a tough brownie. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Bake the brownies at a moderate temperature (350°F or 175°C) for a longer period of time. This will help to prevent the brownies from overcooking and becoming dry.
  • Let the brownies cool completely before cutting them. This will help to prevent them from crumbling.

Conclusion:

Marble brownies are a classic dessert that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. They are a perfect treat for parties, potlucks, or any other special occasion. With their rich chocolate flavor and beautiful marbled appearance, marble brownies are sure to be a hit.
