This was one of my late husband's favorite dishes. These are good served with mashed potatoes and carrots and/or peas, with the sauce from the meatballs spooned over the mashed potatoes.

1/4 c evaporated milk
1 tsp salt

Tips:

  • Prep Ahead: For a stress-free party, prepare the meatballs a day ahead and refrigerate them. Just pop them in the oven when guests arrive.
  • Choose the Right Meat: Use a combination of ground beef and pork for a flavorful and juicy meatball. Alternatively, use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
  • Season Wisely: Don't be shy with the seasonings. A flavorful blend of garlic, onion, herbs, and spices elevates the meatballs.
  • Handle with Care: Mix the meatball mixture gently to avoid overworking it, which can result in tough meatballs.
  • Perfect Baking: Bake the meatballs at a high temperature initially to sear them, then reduce the heat to allow them to cook thoroughly without drying out.
  • Make a Scrumptious Sauce: Simmer the meatballs in a delectable sauce made with crushed tomatoes, broth, and a touch of sweetness. You can also add vegetables like mushrooms or bell peppers for extra flavor.
  • Garnish and Serve: Before serving, garnish the meatballs with fresh herbs, grated cheese, or chopped nuts. Serve them over pasta, rice, or mashed potatoes, or as a delightful appetizer.
