Steps:
- 1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees F. Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan; set aside. In a small bowl, combine the 1/2 c. sugar with the 1 tsp. cinnamon; set aside. In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, cream the butter and 3 c. sugar for 3 minutes on medium speed. Add the milk, eggs, and vanilla; mix until just combined.
- 2. Add the salt and baking soda. Mix for 3 additional minutes. Add the applesauce and mix for an additional 2 minutes. Add the flour; mix until fully blended (DO NOT OVERMIX).
- 3. Pour the batter into the prepared pan. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the batter. Bake for 75-90 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out dry. Cool completely on a wire rack.
Tips:
- Use a variety of apples for a more complex flavor. Some good options include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Pink Lady.
- Peel and core the apples before cooking them. This will help to remove any bitterness from the skin and seeds.
- Cook the apples until they are very soft. This will make them easier to mash and will help the bread to have a smooth texture.
- Add a little bit of cinnamon or nutmeg to the applesauce for extra flavor.
- Use a large mixing bowl when making the bread batter. This will give you plenty of room to stir the ingredients together.
- Be sure to grease and flour the loaf pan before baking the bread. This will help to prevent the bread from sticking to the pan.
- Bake the bread at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 1 hour, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the bread cool completely before slicing and serving.
Conclusion:
Machine Shed Applesauce Sweet Bread is a delicious and easy-to-make bread that is perfect for any occasion. It is moist and flavorful, with a sweet applesauce filling. This bread is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it.
