2 large yellow onions, chopped
3 cloves garlic, chopped
3 cups water
2 (15 ounce) cans tomato sauce
2 (14.5 ounce) cans diced tomatoes

2 tablespoons dried Italian herb seasoning
3 bay leaves
1 tablespoon seasoned salt, or to taste
2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni

8 ounces elbow macaroni, cooked
1/4 lb butter
2 lbs lean ground beef
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 cups onions, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
2 (15 ounce) cans tomato sauce
4 ounces mushrooms, sliced (or use canned)
1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, grated
1 tablespoon chili powder
2 teaspoons sharp paprika (not sweet)
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground pepper
1/2 cup dry sherry

Steps:

  • Brown onions, garlic and green pepper and mushrooms if using fresh, in butter.
  • Remove and set aside, brown ground beef.
  • Add Seasoning, onion mixture, tomato sauce, sherry and macaroni and mushrooms if using canned.
