Tips:

  • Choose the right pasta. Elbow macaroni is the traditional choice for macaroni royale, but you can also use other small, tube-shaped pasta like penne or shells.
  • Cook the pasta al dente. This means cooking it until it is still slightly firm to the bite. This will prevent it from becoming mushy in the casserole.
  • Use a flavorful cheese. A sharp cheddar or a Gruyère are both good choices. You can also use a combination of cheeses.
  • Don't overmix the filling. Overmixing will make the filling tough. Just mix until the ingredients are combined.
  • Bake the casserole until it is golden brown and bubbly. This will take about 30 minutes.

Conclusion:

Macaroni royale is a classic comfort food that is easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser. With its creamy, cheesy filling and crispy breadcrumb topping, it's the perfect dish for a special occasion or a weeknight meal. So next time you're looking for a new pasta dish to try, give macaroni royale a try. You won't be disappointed!
