Tips:

  • Use fresh, russet potatoes for the best results. Russet potatoes have a high starch content, which helps to bind the casserole together.
  • Shred the potatoes using a food processor or a box grater with the large holes. This will help to create uniform shreds that will cook evenly.
  • Rinse the shredded potatoes in cold water and then drain them thoroughly. This will help to remove excess starch, which can make the casserole gummy.
  • Season the potatoes with salt, pepper, and garlic powder before cooking. This will help to enhance their flavor.
  • Cook the potatoes in a large skillet over medium heat until they are golden brown and crispy. This will help to give the casserole a nice texture.
  • Add the cooked potatoes to a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Top with the remaining ingredients and bake until the casserole is bubbly and the cheese is melted.
  • Serve the casserole hot with your favorite toppings, such as sour cream, salsa, or guacamole.
