Steps:
- 1. Crumble and brown ground beef. Drain off all fat; wipe out frying pan.
- 2. Turn beef into colander, and rinse with cold water. Pat dry with paper towel; return to pan.
- 3. Add garlic, onion, pepper, mushrooms and cook over medium low heat, stirring as necessary until veggies are soft.
- 4. Add tomatoes and tomato paste. Add seasonings and simmer until hot throughout. Adjust seasonings to taste and serve over pasta with low fat Parmesan sprinkled over.
Tips:
- Use fresh, ripe tomatoes for the best flavor. Roma tomatoes are a good choice because they have fewer seeds and a thicker flesh.
- Roast the tomatoes before making the sauce. This concentrates their flavor and makes them sweeter.
- Add a variety of herbs and spices to the sauce. This will give it more depth of flavor. Good choices include basil, oregano, thyme, garlic, and red pepper flakes.
- Let the sauce simmer for at least 30 minutes. This will allow the flavors to meld together and develop.
- Serve the sauce over whole-wheat pasta or spaghetti squash for a healthier meal.
Conclusion:
This low-fat spaghetti sauce is a delicious and healthy way to enjoy your favorite Italian dish. With just a few simple ingredients and a little time, you can make a sauce that is as flavorful as it is good for you. So next time you're in the mood for spaghetti, give this recipe a try. You won't be disappointed!
