1 tablespoon sea salt
3 large cloves garlic, minced
2 (8 ounce) fillets catfish
2 tablespoons lemon pepper seasoning (such as McCormick®)
2 tablespoons garlic and herb seasoning blend (such as Mrs. Dash®)
1 ½ teaspoons Creole seasoning (such as Tony Chachere's®)
1 lemon, thinly sliced
¼ cup shredded carrot
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

  • Pour the juice of 5 lemons into a glass bowl; whisk in the sea salt and garlic. Add the catfish fillets, cover, and marinate in the refrigerator 1 to 4 hours.
  • Preheat the oven's broiler for 400 degrees F (205 degrees C) and set the oven rack to the lowest position.
  • Remove the catfish fillets from the marinade, and shake off excess; discard the remaining marinade. Place the fillets on a broiling pan; sprinkle with the lemon pepper seasoning, garlic and herb seasoning, and Creole seasoning. Arrange the lemon slices over the fillets.
  • Broil in the preheated oven until the fish flakes easily with a fork, 12 to 15 minutes. You may wish to turn the broiler on fully for the last few minutes if you like the edges of the fish blackened. Sprinkle the fillets with shredded carrot and parsley to garnish. Categories     Catfish

Time 15m

Yield 6 fish fillets

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup cornmeal
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (or to taste)
1/2 teaspoon salt (I use 1 teaspoon season salt)
1 tablespoon lemon pepper
2 eggs, lightly beaten (you might need 3 eggs)
6 tilapia fillets (or use catfish)
2 tablespoons butter
2 -3 tablespoons oil (more if needed)
lemon slice, sliced thinly (optional)

Steps:

  • In a shallow dish combine flour, cornmeal, garlic powder, salt, and lemon pepper until well combined.
  • Place the eggs in a shallow dish.
  • Dip fish fillets into the eggs then dredge in the flour/cornmeal mixture until well coated.
  • Heat butter with oil in a large skillet.
  • Add in the fillets and fry until brown on both sides.
  • Place the fish on a serving platter and top each fillet with 2 to 3 lemon slices if desired.
  • Delicious!

Tips:

  • Choose the freshest catfish fillets possible. Fresh catfish should have a mild, slightly sweet smell. Avoid fillets that are slimy or have a strong fishy odor.
  • Use a light hand with the seasonings. Catfish is a delicate fish, so it's easy to overpower the flavor with too much seasoning. Start with a small amount of each seasoning and add more to taste.
  • Don't overcook the catfish. Catfish is a quick-cooking fish, so it's important to cook it just until it is opaque in the center. Overcooked catfish will be dry and tough.
  • Serve the catfish immediately with your favorite sides. Lemon pepper catfish is delicious served with rice, vegetables, or salad.

Conclusion:

Lemon pepper catfish is a simple but flavorful dish that is perfect for a quick and easy weeknight meal. The combination of lemon, pepper, and butter creates a delicious crust on the catfish, while the fish itself remains moist and tender. This dish is sure to please everyone at the table.
