Tips:

  • Proper ingredient measurements: Use a kitchen scale for accurate measurements of ingredients, especially for baking. This will ensure the correct proportions and best results.
  • Room temperature ingredients: Bring ingredients like eggs, butter, and milk to room temperature before starting. This helps them mix better and creates a smooth batter or dough.
  • Creaming butter and sugar: In recipes that require creaming butter and sugar, use an electric mixer on medium speed until the mixture is light and fluffy. This incorporates air and creates a smooth texture.
  • Folding in ingredients: When adding delicate ingredients like whipped cream or egg whites, use a spatula to gently fold them into the mixture. This prevents overmixing and keeps the air incorporated.
  • Mixing dry and wet ingredients: Alternate adding dry and wet ingredients to the mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined to avoid overmixing and gluten development in baked goods.
  • Baking times: Always preheat your oven to the specified temperature before baking. Check the doneness of baked goods by inserting a toothpick or skewer into the center. It should come out clean or with just a few moist crumbs attached.
