Here is a great make-ahead-of-the-big-event seafood appetizer which tastes delicious and is appealing to the eye. This will be a hit with your family and friends! I promise. 12 ounces to 1 pound of salad shrimp, cooked and peeled (i buy it frozen from walmart), set aside 2 tbsp. of the shrimp
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
2 Tbsp sour cream
2 tsp worcestershire sauce
1 tsp lemon juice (real lemon juice brand or squeezed from a fresh lemon)
1/2 tsp ground cayenne pepper
1 tsp minced garlic or 2 fresh minced garlic cloves
1 (12 oz) bottle shrimp cocktail sauce
1/2 c green onions, chopped
1/2 c green bell pepper, diced
2 cups finely shredded mozzarella cheese
*optional* half jar of pimentos for added color and appeal
*optional* 1/2 cup of sliced ripe olives

Steps:

  • 1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, cayenne pepper and garlic. Mix with an electric mixer until all is thoroughly blended together.
  • 2. Spread the mixture on bottom of a glass 8X8X2 (or slightly larger) serving dish.

(I do not usually use the pimento and ripe olives unless it for a fancy party.) GARNISH with the reserved shrimp sprinkled atop the Mozzarella dish. (Please do not forget this step because some people are allergic to shellfish.) Chill and serve with Ritz Crackers or crackers of your choice.
  • 5. *OPTIONAL* If you do not have Shrimp Cocktail Sauce, but you have chili sauce, substitute it and serve with tortilla chips, corn chips etc...

LAYERED SHRIMP DIP

Layered Shrimp Dip image

What makes this shrimp dip different from the others posted is the inclusion of shredded mozzarella cheese. Great with Ritz!

Provided by jnpj7468

Categories     < 60 Mins

Time 40m

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese
1 cup mayonnaise
1 (8 ounce) jar seafood cocktail sauce
1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
1 (10 ounce) can cooked baby shrimp
1 bunch green onion, sliced
1 (2 ounce) can sliced black olives, drained

Steps:

  • Soften cream cheese and mix together with mayonnaise.
  • Spread this mixture evenly onto the bottom of the serving platter.
  • Layer with cocktail sauce, then mozzarella cheese, followed by baby shrimp, and finally green onions and black olives.
  • Chill for at least 30 minutes prior to serving.

Tips:

  • For the best results, use fresh, cooked shrimp. Frozen shrimp can be used, but it should be thawed and drained thoroughly before using.
  • If you don't have a food processor, you can finely chop the shrimp and celery by hand.
  • Be sure to use a sharp knife to thinly slice the green onions.
  • For a more flavorful spread, use homemade mayonnaise. You can also use a store-bought mayonnaise, but be sure to choose one that is made with real eggs and oil.
  • If you want a creamier spread, you can add a tablespoon or two of sour cream.
  • Season the spread to taste with salt, pepper, and lemon juice.
  • Serve the spread on crackers, bread, or vegetables.

Conclusion:

Layered shrimp spread is a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or snack. It is perfect for parties or potlucks. The spread can be made ahead of time and refrigerated for up to three days. When you are ready to serve, simply spread it on crackers, bread, or vegetables. Enjoy!
