LAYERED HOLIDAY JELLO SALAD

Layered Holiday Jello Salad image

This is a variation on the traditional cranberry/pineapple salad; red and green layers with a cream cheese layer in between. My mom makes this at Christmas and/or Thanksgiving and I can't stop eating it. Would be good for potlucks, too. Yum!

This recipe is from my +20 year old church cookbook. We like to make this for family gatherings. It's a nice little sweet dessert when you only have a little room left in your stomach but still want something sweet to top off the meal. (cooking time = chilling time)

LAYERED JELLO SALAD

This comes from my 'Nanny's' (grandma) kitchen. I make it every Holiday season and it brings back memories as this dish was my absolute favorite sweet side dish. I think it still is. My mouth waters when thinking about it. It seems simple but it packs a great flavor.

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 large mixed fruit jello
1 can(s) pineapple pieces - drained
1 small sour cream
2 bananas
1 c whole pecan halves

Steps:

  • 1. Prepare jello per box directions. When dissolved in the pot, add can of drained pineapple and pecans. Let stand for a couple of minutes.
  • 2. Add half of the mixture to an 8X8 pan. Put in refrigerator or freezer (if you want it to set faster-but watch it close you don't want to freeze it) until set, leaving remaining jello mixture on the stovetop with heat off.
  • 3. Once set, layer sliced bananas over this to make one layer. Add entire thing of sour cream over bananas. Then pour the rest of the remaining liquid jello over this. Set in fridge.

Tips:

  • Choose the right flavors. The best layered jello combinations are those that complement each other. Some popular choices include strawberry and lime, orange and lemon, and raspberry and blueberry. Consider the occasion and the preferences of your guests when choosing flavors.
  • Use high-quality ingredients. The better the ingredients, the better the jello will taste. Use fresh fruit, pure fruit juices, and unflavored gelatin. Avoid using artificial sweeteners or colors.
  • Follow the instructions carefully. Each jello recipe is different, so it's important to follow the instructions carefully. Pay attention to the measurements and the order in which the ingredients are added.
  • Chill the jello properly. Jello needs to be chilled for at least 4 hours, or overnight, before it's ready to serve. Don't rush the process, or the jello won't set properly.
  • Garnish the jello before serving. A simple garnish can make a big difference in the presentation of your jello. Try using fresh fruit, whipped cream, or sprinkles.

Conclusion:

Layered jello is a classic dessert that is perfect for any occasion. It's easy to make, delicious, and visually appealing. With a little planning, you can create a layered jello that is sure to impress your guests.
