Yield Makes enough for 2 dozen cupcakes

Number Of Ingredients 4

1/3 cup whole milk
1/2 teaspoon dried lavender
3 cups confectioners' sugar
Violet gel-paste food coloring

Steps:

  • Bring milk and lavender just to a boil in a small saucepan. Remove from heat, and let steep 10 minutes. Strain, and discard lavender. Whisk in sugar until smooth. Strain again. Add food coloring until desired shade. Use immediately.

Tips:

  • To achieve the perfect consistency for your lavender icing, ensure that the butter is softened to room temperature before creaming it with the powdered sugar.
  • Incorporate the lavender flavor by using either dried lavender buds, lavender extract, or lavender oil. If using dried buds, grind them into a fine powder using a mortar and pestle or a coffee grinder.
  • Adjust the sweetness of the icing to your preference by adding more or less powdered sugar as needed.
  • For a smooth and creamy texture, sift the powdered sugar before adding it to the butter.
  • If you find the icing is too thick, add a small amount of milk or cream to achieve the desired consistency.
  • Enhance the visual appeal of your lavender icing by adding a touch of purple food coloring.
  • Store any leftover lavender icing in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

Conclusion:

Lavender icing offers a delightful and versatile flavor that complements various baked goods. Whether you prefer the subtle floral notes of dried lavender buds, the concentrated essence of lavender extract, or the vibrant aroma of lavender oil, incorporating this unique ingredient into your icing will elevate your desserts to a new level. Experiment with different ratios and combinations of these lavender sources to achieve the perfect balance of flavor and aroma. With its beautiful purple hue and captivating fragrance, lavender icing adds a touch of elegance and sophistication to any occasion.
