Yield 2 servings

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 ½ lb ribeye steak, or any other well-marbled, tender cut
1 onion, 1/2 roughly chopped and 1/2 thinly sliced
3 cloves garlic cloves
½ pear, peeled and roughly chopped
3 spring onions, 1 cut into pieces and 2 sliced into 1/4-inch rounds
3 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon black pepper
⅓ cup soy sauce
3 tablespoons sesame oil
1 tablespoon canola oil
1 teaspoon sesame seed, for serving
2 cups cooked rice, for serving
Banchan (Korean side dishes), for serving (optional)

Steps:

  • Slice the beef as thinly as you can, then set aside in a large bowl. Using frozen or cold beef will make the slicing easier.

  • Pour the marinade over the beef, add the thinly sliced onion, then mix to coat evenly. Cover with plastic wrap and marinate in the fridge for at least 30 minutes, or overnight.
  • Heat the canola oil in a large skillet over high heat. Pat the meat dry.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of beef: For Korean-style BBQ, you'll want a cut of beef that is well-marbled and has a good amount of fat. This will help the beef stay tender and juicy while it cooks.
  • Slice the beef thinly: The thinner you slice the beef, the quicker it will cook and the more tender it will be. Aim for slices that are about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Marinate the beef: Marinating the beef in a mixture of soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, and sesame oil will help to flavor the beef and make it more tender. Be sure to marinate the beef for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight.
  • Cook the beef over high heat: Korean-style BBQ is typically cooked over high heat. This will help to sear the outside of the beef and keep the inside juicy. If you're using a grill, preheat it to high heat before cooking the beef.
  • Don't overcook the beef: Korean-style BBQ is best when the beef is cooked to medium-rare or medium. Overcooking the beef will make it tough and dry.
  • Serve the beef with a variety of dipping sauces: Korean-style BBQ is typically served with a variety of dipping sauces, such as soy sauce, gochujang (Korean chili paste), and ssamjang (a mixture of gochujang, doenjang (Korean soybean paste), and sesame oil). You can also serve the beef with a variety of side dishes, such as rice, noodles, and vegetables.

Conclusion:

Korean-style BBQ is a delicious and flavorful dish that is perfect for a party or a weeknight meal. By following these tips, you can make sure that your Korean-style BBQ is cooked perfectly and enjoyed by everyone.
