  • More info:
  • Savoy cabbage is a mild-flavored cabbage with green, crinkly leaves. The veggie gets its name from the Savoy region in the western Alps, where the cabbage may have originated.
  • Ingredient tip:
  • Daikon ("large root" in Japanese) radishes look like giant white carrots. They have a mild radish flavor and are available at some supermarkets and at Asian markets.

Tips:

  • For a sweeter slaw, use a combination of white and red cabbage.
  • To add a bit of spice, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes to the dressing.
  • If you don't have any celery seeds, you can substitute caraway seeds or fennel seeds.
  • For a vegan dressing, use a plant-based mayonnaise or yogurt.
  • To make the slaw ahead of time, prepare the dressing and cabbage mixture separately and store them in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. When ready to serve, combine the dressing and cabbage mixture and toss to coat.
