KANGAROO BURGERS

Kangaroo Burgers image

Yes as a beer advertisement says we do eat our national emblem in Australia. Cook over a BBQ with beer in hand while the kids are inside watching repeats of 'Skippy The Bush Kangaroo' on TV. I think it would also work with other low-fat game meats that don't have a really strong flavour.

KANGAROO BURGERS (AUSTRALIA)

Kangaroo Burgers (Australia) image

This recipe is from week 16 of my food blog, Travel by Stove. I am attempting to cook one meal from every nation on Earth, and Australia is my 16th stop. Much of the food served in Australia is indistinguishable from American or European food, except for this one: kangaroo. You probably won't find this meat at your local Safeway, but many specialty grocers can order it.

Tips:

  • Choose fresh kangaroo meat: Look for meat that is bright red and has no signs of spoilage, such as discoloration or an off odor.
  • Grind your own kangaroo meat: This will give you the best control over the texture and flavor of your burgers. Use a coarse grind for a more rustic texture, or a fine grind for a smoother burger.
  • Season the kangaroo meat simply: Kangaroo meat has a mild flavor, so it doesn't need a lot of seasoning. Just a simple combination of salt, pepper, and garlic powder will do.
  • Don't overcook the kangaroo burgers: Kangaroo meat is a lean meat, so it can easily become dry and tough if it's overcooked. Cook the burgers over medium heat for about 4 minutes per side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 145 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Use high-quality toppings: The toppings you use on your kangaroo burgers can make a big difference in the overall flavor. Use fresh, flavorful ingredients, such as lettuce, tomato, onion, and cheese.

Conclusion:

Kangaroo burgers are a delicious and healthy alternative to traditional beef burgers. They're leaner and lower in calories, and they have a unique flavor that's sure to please everyone at your table. So next time you're looking for a new burger recipe to try, give kangaroo burgers a try. You won't be disappointed.
