Time 25m

Number Of Ingredients 7

8 cups popped corn
Large handful of cashews or other nut
1 cup granulated sugar
½ cup Kahlua
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
3 tablespoons butter
Salt (optional)

Steps:

  • Put the popped popcorn and nuts in a greased roasting pan and set it in a 250 degree oven to warm. Warm popcorn is easier to coat.
  • In a large saucepan, heat the sugar, Kahlua and vinegar until very hot. Add the butter and bring to a boil, stirring often. Insert a candy thermometer and continue boiling, stirring often (I stopped a couple of times, but stirred here and there to prevent burning) and bring the mixture to 300 degrees F - hard crack stage. Immediately remove from heat.
  • Pour over the warm popcorn and nuts and stir to coat. At this point it will be very chewy. Let it cool completely. If you cooked it to hard crack, it will crisp when it is completely cool.
  • Eat as is or douse with more liqueur and eat immediately.

KAHLUA® HOMEMADE

Kahlua® Homemade image

This recipe I love to make around Thanksgiving to drink or give as presents at Christmastime. The longer you wait the better it is, try and wait 4 weeks. I got this recipe from one of my own concoctions from trying several different recipes.

Tips:

  • Choose the Right Popcorn Kernels: Use high-quality popcorn kernels that are specifically designed for popping. Avoid using old or stale kernels, as they may not pop properly.
  • Use Fresh Ingredients: Make sure to use fresh butter, sugar, corn syrup, and Kahlúa liqueur. Fresh ingredients will provide the best flavor and texture to your Kahlúa popcorn.
  • Pay Attention to the Temperature: When making the Kahlúa syrup, it's important to carefully monitor the temperature. The syrup should reach the soft ball stage, which is around 235°F (113°C). If the syrup gets too hot, it will become hard and brittle.
  • Stir Continuously: While making the Kahlúa syrup, stir the mixture continuously to prevent it from burning or sticking to the bottom of the saucepan.
  • Coat the Popcorn Evenly: When pouring the Kahlúa syrup over the popcorn, make sure to distribute it evenly so that all the popcorn is coated. Toss the popcorn gently to ensure that the syrup is evenly distributed.
  • Let the Popcorn Cool: After coating the popcorn with the Kahlúa syrup, let it cool completely before serving. This will allow the syrup to harden and set, giving the popcorn a delicious crunchy texture.

Conclusion:

Kahlúa popcorn is a delightful and easy-to-make treat that is perfect for parties, movie nights, or as a sweet snack. With just a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a delicious and unique popcorn that is sure to be a hit with everyone. So, gather your ingredients, pop some popcorn, and get ready to enjoy this tasty Kahlúa-infused snack!
