I have been making this dish for Christmas Eve for about 17 years. I did skip a year and got yelled at by the elders who "waited all year" to eat it. It is rich and spicy and very much my tastes. I hope you enjoy.

Categories     condiments, seafood

Time 10m

Yield 1 cup

Number Of Ingredients 6

2/3 cup ketchup
3 tablespoons prepared horseradish, store-bought or homemade
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice, plus more to taste
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon hot sauce, such as Tabasco, plus more to taste
Dash of Worcestershire sauce

Steps:

  • Mix together all the ingredients in a small bowl until well blended. Taste and add more lemon juice or hot sauce as needed. Cocktail sauce will keep in the refrigerator in a covered container for at least 2 weeks.

Tips:

  • Use fresh ingredients whenever possible, especially for the tomatoes and bell pepper.
  • Dice the tomatoes and bell pepper finely so that they blend well with the other ingredients.
  • Use a good quality horseradish sauce. If you can't find one, you can make your own by grating fresh horseradish root.
  • Adjust the amount of cayenne pepper to your taste. If you like a spicy sauce, add more cayenne. If you prefer a milder sauce, use less.
  • Let the sauce chill for at least 30 minutes before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld together.

Conclusion:

K-Jon's Creole Cocktail Sauce is a delicious and versatile sauce that can be used as a dipping sauce for seafood, as a marinade for chicken or fish, or as a topping for salads. It's also a great addition to Bloody Marys and other cocktails. With its spicy, tangy flavor, this sauce is sure to add a kick to your next party or gathering.
