JULIE'S EXTRA SPECIAL HOLIDAY CHEX MIX
My mix is based on a recipe that my childhood best friend's mother, Mrs. Harper, had for Chex Mix. It became an annual ritual for me to call her to ask for the recipe yet again. :) This mix is so very, very yummy and decadent! Good thing I only make it once a year...

Steps:
- Fry up the bacon until it's nice and crisp. Note: for those who've asked, 1 pound of bacon (in my experience) will yield between 1/3 to 1/2 cup of drippings. It depends on the bacon you use.
- Then place the cooked bacon in a container and reserve it for another use- it's the leftover drippings you're after!
- Pre-heat the oven to 250 degrees F.
- Melt the butter and bacon drippings together in a saucepan, then stir in the seasonings to make a nice, buttery mix.
- In a very large bowl, combine the mix ingredients.
- Gradually stir in the buttery seasoning mix until the dry mix is evenly coated.
- Spread on cookie sheets and bake for 1 hour, turning every 15 minutes.
- Spread on paper towels to cool.
- Store in airtight container.
- Makes about 14 cups Chex mix snack.

HOLIDAY CHEX MIX
This recipe is a keeper! It's a great way to use up cereal you may have purchased on sale, and it's such a delicious snack you'll have a hard time stopping. Use any cereal you like (chex, cinnamon toast crunch, life, or whatever you have on hand). I tried this with cheerios, captain crunch, cocoa puffs, raisin bran, and whatever else I could find. My only thought for next time is why not add some miniature marshmallows to the mix? Recipe courtesy of A Thrifty Mom. Serving size is estimated. Thank you!

Steps:
- Mix cereal, almonds, pretzels, and coconut in a large bowl.
- Meanwhile, in a medium saucepan combine butter, sugar, and Karo.
- Over medium heat melt the butter and blend ingredients together.
- Stir while heating, and once it comes to a boil, cook for 2 minutes. Set a timer because if it cooks too long it will be too hard. If it doesn't cook long enough it will be too soft.
- Once it has cooked at a full boil for 2 minutes take the mixture off the heat.
- Sprinkle in the topped candy canes ( make sure you add them slowly so they don't turn into a large ball).
- As you sprinkle in the candy cane, whisk to prevent large lumps.
- Pour over the top of the cereal mixture in bowl and stir until all cereal is well coated.
- Then pour onto a greased cookie sheet and top with sprinkles if you want.
- Let cool, store in a zip lock bag and enjoy!
Tips:
- Choose your Chex: You can use regular Chex, Honey Chex, or a combination of both. If you want a gluten-free Chex mix, use gluten-free Chex cereal.
- Use fresh ingredients: The fresher the ingredients, the better your Chex mix will taste. Use real butter, not margarine, and fresh spices.
- Don't overcrowd the pan: When baking the Chex mix, don't overcrowd the pan. This will prevent the Chex from getting crispy.
- Stir the Chex mix often: While the Chex mix is baking, stir it often to ensure that it cooks evenly.
- Add the Chex mix to the sauce immediately: Once the sauce is ready, add the Chex mix to it immediately. This will help the Chex mix absorb the flavors of the sauce.
- Let the Chex mix cool before serving: Once the Chex mix is coated in sauce, let it cool for a few minutes before serving. This will help the sauce to set.
Conclusion:
Julia's Extra Special Holiday Chex Mix is a delicious and festive snack that is perfect for any holiday party. With its sweet and savory flavors, this Chex mix is sure to be a hit with everyone. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy holiday snack, give this recipe a try.
