HORSERADISH CRèME FRAîCHE SAUCE
This creamy, luscious sauce gets its bite from the combination of mustard and horseradish. Dollop it on steaks and chops, fish, chicken, roasted vegetables (especially broccoli and cauliflower) or a hot baked potato. If you can't get crème fraîche, sour cream is a fine substitute. Tips:
- Use fresh ingredients: The fresher the ingredients, the better the johnnycakes will taste. Fresh cornmeal, buttermilk, and eggs will give you the best results.
- Grind your own cornmeal: If you have a grain mill, you can grind your own cornmeal for a more authentic flavor. Just be sure to use a fine grind.
- Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing the batter will make the johnnycakes tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
- Cook the johnnycakes over medium heat: This will help them cook evenly without burning.
- Serve the johnnycakes warm: Johnnycakes are best served warm, right out of the pan. You can top them with butter, honey, or your favorite syrup.
Conclusion:
Johnnycakes are a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They are easy to make and can be customized to your liking. Whether you like them plain or topped with your favorite ingredients, johnnycakes are sure to be a hit. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy meal, give johnnycakes a try!
