Provided by SweetGirl

Number Of Ingredients 16

2 lbs italian sausage, casings removed (mild or hot)
1 small onion, chopped (optional)
3 - 4 garlic cloves, minced
1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes
2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
2 (15 ounce) cans tomato sauce
2 cups water (for a long period of simmering for flavors to meld. If you don't want to simmer it as long, add less)
3 tsp basil
2 tsp dried parsley flakes
1 1/2 tsp brown sugar
1 tsp salt
1/4 - 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
1/4 tsp fresh coarse ground black pepper
1/4 cup red wine ( a good cabernet)
1 lb thin spaghetti
parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • In a large, heavy stockpot, bronw italian sausage, breaking up as you stir. Add onions and continue to cook stirring occasionally until onions are softened. Add garlic, tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and water. Add basil, parsley, brown sugar, salt, crushed red pepper, and black pepper. Stir well and barely bring to a boil. Stir in red wine. Simmer on low, stirring frequently for at least an hour. A longer simmer makes for a better sauce, just be careful not to let it burn! Cook spaghetti according to package directions. Spoon sauce over drained spaghetti noodles and sprinkle with parmesan cheese.

JO MAMA'S WORLD FAMOUS LASAGNA

Jo Mama's World Famous Lasagna image

Wondering what to do with leftover sauce when you make Recipe #22782? Here is the perfect answer. Don't skimp on the sauce--this is best when you use 6-7 cups of sauce. Prep time assumes you have already made sauce. I like to make this up in 2 smaller casseroles so I can serve my family one and freeze the 2nd one for later.

Time 50m

  • Cook lasagna noodles according to package directions, drain and cut to fit pan.
  • In small bowl, mix cottage cheese, oregano, salt and 1/4 cup of parmesan cheese.
  • Using two deep 9 x 7-inch glass baking pans or one deep 9 x 13-inch casserole dish, make a layer of noodles followed with 1/2 cottage cheese mixture, 1/2 mozzarella cheese and 1/3 sauce.
  • Follow with another noodle layer, remaining cottage cheese, mozzarella cheese and 1/3 sauce.
  • Top this with a final noodle layer covered with remaining sauce.
  • Sprinkle remaining 1/4 cup parmesan cheese over top.
  • Bake in 350°F oven for 30-40 minutes until casserole is bubbling and slightly browned on top.
  • Let cool for 15 minutes before serving so lasagna can firm up for easier slicing and serving.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients: Fresh, flavorful ingredients will make your spaghetti taste better. Look for high-quality pasta, olive oil, tomatoes, and Parmesan cheese.
  • Cook the pasta al dente: Al dente means "to the tooth" in Italian, and it refers to the ideal texture for cooked pasta. Pasta should be cooked until it is tender but still has a slight bite to it.
  • Use a flavorful sauce: The sauce is what really makes spaghetti special. Use a sauce that is packed with flavor, such as a traditional tomato sauce, a pesto sauce, or a creamy Alfredo sauce.
  • Don't skimp on the cheese: Parmesan cheese is a classic topping for spaghetti. It adds a salty, nutty flavor that really enhances the dish. Don't be afraid to add a generous amount of cheese to your spaghetti.
  • Garnish with fresh herbs: Fresh herbs, such as basil or parsley, add a pop of color and flavor to spaghetti. They're also a great way to brighten up the dish.
