NOT A SECRET ANYMORE...JAPANESE STEAKHOUSE WHITE SAUCE

Not a Secret Anymore...japanese Steakhouse White Sauce image

I have searched for this recipe for a very long time. It IS the sauce you get at places like Mon cafe and Jimmy's Hibachi!! The ingredients surprised me but it is very easy and the key is to let the sauce refrigerate overnight or at least make it early in the morning to have with dinner. My husband and I use it to dip everything from crackers, chicken nuggets or even on rice like they serve it in the restaurants. The recipe is easily doubled or (the way I make it) tripled!! ENJOY!!! 1 1/4 cups Hellmanns Mayonnaise
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon tomato paste
1 tablespoon melted butter
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon sugar

1 dash cayenne (I use Franks)

Steps:

  • Using a fork or a whisk, blend all ingredients together thoroughly until well mixed and the sauce is smooth. Refrigerate overnight to allow flavors to blend. Bring to room temperature before serving.
  • The sauce will NOT taste right if you don't let it sit overnight. And please don't try to substitute ketchup for the tomato paste! The water is needed to bring this to the right consistency.

The water is needed to bring this to the right consistency. I don't know how long this keeps in the refrigerator; I've kept it 7-10 days, but I always wind up eating it all before 10 days so after that - anyone's guess. * Hellmann's is called "Best Foods" west of the Rockie Mountains. Use other mayos at your peril - many cheap brands make the sauce taste too much like mayo.

YUM YUM SAUCE

Yum Yum Sauce image

This mayonnaise-based Japanese steakhouse sauce tastes glorious with grilled shrimp, chicken and vegetables, or drizzled over a plate of fried rice. Slather it on a burger, use it as a dipping sauce for fried tofu, French fries and pizza crusts, or even as a salad dressing for crunchy iceberg, romaine or Little Gem lettuce. An all-purpose sauce for everyday pleasure, yum yum sauce should taste balanced with savoriness, sweetness and a touch of acid and gosoham, the Korean word often used to describe the nuttiness of sesame oil. Remember to salt generously so all the flavors can shine.
