JAMAICAN JERK MEATLOAF

Jamaican Jerk Meatloaf image

A quick and easy recipe with lots of flavour and a little kick. I use store bought Jerk seasoning sauce, it lasts for ages as you only need a small amount, Walkerswood is a great brand if you can find it. This Is great served with good old-fashioned mashed potatoes or even eaten cold the next day.

Time 40m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 lb minced lean beef
1 medium onion, finely chopped
3/4 cup breadcrumbs
2 tablespoons caribbean jerk seasoning
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 egg
1 stalk spring onion, finely chopped
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • In a large bowl combine all ingredients.
  • On a lightly greased baking sheet mould into a long loaf shape.
  • Bake for 30 minutes.
  • Slice and serve.

Tips:

  • To achieve the authentic Jamaican jerk flavor, use a combination of allspice, thyme, scotch bonnet peppers, and ginger in your spice rub. These ingredients are essential for creating the distinctive smoky and spicy taste.
  • Don't be afraid to adjust the heat level of the spice rub to your preference. If you like milder flavors, reduce the amount of scotch bonnet peppers. If you prefer a spicier kick, add more peppers or include a hotter variety like habanero.
  • When forming the meatloaf, handle it gently to avoid overworking the mixture. Overworking can result in a dense and dry meatloaf.
  • To prevent the meatloaf from becoming too dry, add some moisture to the mixture. This can be achieved by using ground beef with a higher fat content, adding grated vegetables like zucchini or carrots, or incorporating a binding agent like eggs or breadcrumbs.
  • For a crispy and flavorful crust, brush the top of the meatloaf with a glaze made from brown sugar, ketchup, and Jamaican jerk seasoning. This glaze will caramelize in the oven, creating a delicious and visually appealing crust.
  • Serve the Jamaican jerk meatloaf with traditional Jamaican sides such as rice and peas, fried plantains, or coleslaw. These accompaniments will complement the flavors of the meatloaf perfectly.

Conclusion:

This Jamaican jerk meatloaf recipe is a unique and flavorful twist on the classic comfort food. By combining the bold spices of Jamaican jerk seasoning with the hearty texture of meatloaf, this dish offers a tantalizing culinary experience. Whether you're a fan of Jamaican cuisine or simply looking for a new and exciting way to enjoy meatloaf, this recipe is sure to impress. So fire up your oven, gather your ingredients, and embark on a taste adventure with this delicious Jamaican jerk meatloaf.
