CARIBBEAN RICE IN A RICE COOKER

Caribbean Rice in a Rice Cooker image

This side or a vegetarian main is loaded with flavor and texture. I made this in a rice cooker if you Add more water will increase the cooking time and produce softer rice; reducing the amount of water will produce firmer rice. But once you've found the ratio that's right for you, it'll be very easy to have perfect rice your way. Yes you can make stove top as well. Be sure not to remove the lid till done cooking.

CREAMY GRITS (RICE COOKER)

Creamy Grits (Rice Cooker) image

I first tasted grits as an adult and was underwhelmed. But I really started to enjoy them with added ingredients, so I started thinking of how to improve them for breakfast. I realized that I had also disliked oatmeal made with water, so taking a cue from my mother, I prepared them with milk. I really liked the results, but not the cooking of them. So I threw everything into the rice cooker - yummy grits with no fuss. This recipe can be doubled readily.

Time 30m

Yield 2 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

1/2 cup stone-ground grits
1 1/2 cups milk
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon butter

Steps:

  • Put all ingredients into rice cooker bowl and stir to combine. Set to porridge cycle.
  • About 10 minutes into the cycle, stir. (I often don't get around to this, and they turn out fine),.
  • I serve with a pat of butter and a spoonful of cherry or other preserves.

Tips:

  • If you don't have a rice cooker, you can cook the grits in a saucepan over medium heat. Just be sure to stir constantly to prevent sticking.
  • For a creamier texture, use full-fat milk instead of water.
  • Add a pinch of salt and pepper to taste.
  • For a more flavorful dish, add some chopped onion, garlic, or bell pepper to the grits.
  • Serve the grits with your favorite toppings, such as butter, cheese, or hot sauce.

Conclusion:

Jamaican grits are a hearty and delicious dish that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They're easy to make and can be customized to your liking. So next time you're looking for a new breakfast recipe, give Jamaican grits a try!
