JALAPENOS STUFFED WITH SAUSAGE

Jalapenos Stuffed With Sausage image

It's Football season! Beers in the cooler and stuffed jalapenos in the oven! What's in yours?

Provided by Connie "Kiyu" Guerrero

Categories     Other Side Dishes

Time 45m

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 1/2 lb jalapeno peppers
1 pkg 8oz. cream cheese (softened)
1 c parmesan cheese (freshly grated)
1 lb italian sausage (or any sausage)
FOUR INGREDIENTS BEFORE THE GAME!

Steps:

  • 1. Start by softening the cream cheese. Just take it out of the refrigerator, open the wrapping, and let it sit on the counter while you cook the sausage. It will soften on its own!
  • 2. I chose HOT Italian sausage to make this recipe. It ended up with quite a kick! Choosing sweet Italian sausage or pork sausage would definitely have decreased the amount of heat. Buy whatever sausage you prefer, depending on YOUR taste or that of the people invited to your party. With a sharp knife, slice through the casing of the sausage.
  • 3. Add the softened cream cheese and the grated Parmesan cheese. This needs to get totally mixed together. Wash the jalapenos and cut them in half with a sharp knife. Remove the seeds and membrane with a knife.
  • 4. Fill each jalapeño half with about 1 to 1 ½ Tablespoons of filling. Some of the filled peppers may tip over in the oven. To prevent this, you can "snuggle" or "nestle" them together on the baking sheet. (Be sure to use a baking sheet with sides!)
  • 5. Bake them in a pre-heated 425 degrees F oven for 20 minutes. ENJOY THE GAME!

These are easy and tasty and have just enough kick for me, though I admit I like food pretty darn spicy. Be careful that you don't touch your face while handling hot peppers...you may want to use plastic gloves to protect your hands.

SAUSAGE STUFFED JALAPENO POPPERS RECIPE - (4.5/5)

Sausage Stuffed Jalapeno Poppers Recipe - (4.5/5) image

Provided by á-31991

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 pound ground Italian sausage (or regular pork or whatever appeals to you)
1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (original recipe used parmesan)
1 pound jalapenos, halved lengthwise and seeded
1 green onion, finely chopped

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425°. Place sausage in a skillet over medium heat, and cook until evenly brown. Drain grease. In a bowl, mix the sausage, cream cheese, cheddar cheese, and green onion. Spoon about 1 tablespoon sausage mixture into each jalapeno half. Arrange stuffed halves in a baking dish. Bake 20 minutes in the preheated oven, until bubbly and lightly browned. Tips on seeding the jalapenos. 1) Wear gloves throughout the entire process, then remove right after so you don't transfer to sink faucet, cabinet handles, etc. 2) I love my little lemon zester tool for seeding but a small melon baller works great too. 3) As you half and seed the jalapenos and put into a bowl of continuous running water. This helps soften to bake better and removes some heat.

Use toothpicks to secure the bacon around the stuffed jalapenos. Be sure to use a pan that won't let the bacon drip all over the oven while cooking!

Tips:

  • Choose the right peppers: Look for firm, deep green peppers that are about 2-3 inches in length. Avoid peppers that have blemishes or soft spots.
  • Cut the peppers carefully: Use a sharp knife to cut the peppers in half lengthwise. Be careful not to cut all the way through the pepper, as you want the halves to remain attached at the stem.
  • Remove the ribs and seeds: Use a spoon to scrape out the ribs and seeds from the pepper halves. This will help to reduce the heat of the peppers.
  • Stuff the peppers evenly: When stuffing the peppers, be sure to distribute the filling evenly so that each half is filled to the same level.
  • Cook the peppers thoroughly: Cook the peppers until they are heated through and the filling is cooked through. This will usually take about 20 minutes.

Conclusion:

Jalapeno peppers stuffed with sausage is a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or snack. They are perfect for parties or gatherings, and they can also be enjoyed as a meal. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a dish that is sure to please everyone.
