If you do you need 2 15-ounce cans of whatever beans you like (well drained). If necessary, rinse with cold water
Tips:
- Use high-quality ingredients: The better the quality of your ingredients, the better your Jag will taste. Use fresh vegetables, flavorful spices, and high-quality rice and beans.
- Soak the beans overnight: Soaking the beans overnight will help them cook more evenly and reduce the cooking time. If you don't have time to soak the beans overnight, you can quick-soak them by boiling them for 1 minute, then removing them from the heat and letting them sit for 1 hour.
- Cook the rice and beans together: Cooking the rice and beans together will help them absorb each other's flavors. You can cook them in a pot on the stovetop or in a rice cooker.
- Add vegetables and spices: Add vegetables and spices to your Jag to give it more flavor. Common vegetables used in Jag include carrots, celery, onions, and bell peppers. Common spices used in Jag include cumin, coriander, paprika, and garlic powder.
- Simmer until the rice and beans are tender: Simmer the Jag until the rice and beans are tender and the sauce has thickened. This will usually take about 30 minutes.
- Serve with your favorite toppings: Jag is traditionally served with sliced hard-boiled eggs, chopped parsley, and a dollop of sour cream. You can also serve it with other toppings, such as shredded cheese, diced tomatoes, or guacamole.
Conclusion:
Jag is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a weeknight meal. It is also a great way to use up leftover rice and beans. With its simple ingredients and flavorful sauce, Jag is a dish that everyone will enjoy. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy meal, give Jag a try. You won't be disappointed!
