salt and pepper to taste
water, vegetable or chicken broth

Steps:

  • For the Fried Italian Sauteed Spinach:
  • In a large frying pan, add the oil and place the wet-washed spinach in the frying pan before it gets hot to avoid splattering.
  • Saute the spinach adding salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes to taste until it's wilted.
  • This takes around 5 to 8 minutes.

GARLIC SAUTEED SPINACH

Garlic Sauteed Spinach image

Dinner couldn't be simpler with Ina Garten's Garlic Sauteed Spinach recipe from Barefoot Contessa on Food Network. It's an easy, go-to side dish for your table.

Provided by Ina Garten

Categories     side-dish

Time 10m

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 1/2 pounds baby spinach leaves
2 tablespoons good olive oil
2 tablespoons chopped garlic (6 cloves)
2 teaspoons kosher salt
3/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
Lemon
Sea or kosher salt, optional

Steps:

  • Rinse the spinach well in cold water to make sure it's very clean. Spin it dry in a salad spinner, leaving just a little water clinging to the leaves.
  • In a very large pot or Dutch oven, heat the olive oil and saute the garlic over medium heat for about 1 minute, but not until it's browned. Add all the spinach, the salt, and pepper to the pot, toss it with the garlic and oil, cover the pot, and cook it for 2 minutes. Uncover the pot, turn the heat on high, and cook the spinach for another minute, stirring with a wooden spoon, until all the spinach is wilted. Using a slotted spoon, lift the spinach to a serving bowl and top with the butter, a squeeze of lemon, and a sprinkling of sea or kosher salt. Serve hot.

BEST EVER ITALIAN SPINACH

Best Ever Italian Spinach image

This is the best ever Italian Spinach. I believe it is very close to the recipe used by the Memphis resteraunt called Grisanti's. This recipe would also be VERY easy to double or triple. I hate eggs, and I love this recipe. My husband is not a huge 'green veggie' fan, and he loves this recipe. It is great, fast, easy, involves common ingredients, and will be a staple in your kitchen. I am going to try cooking in batches and putting in ziplocks to freeze (OAMC).

SICILIAN SPINACH SAUTé

Sicilian Spinach Sauté image

Categories     Cheese     Garlic     Side     Sauté     Quick & Easy     High Fiber     Currant     Spinach     Capers     Bon Appétit

Yield Makes 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 10-ounce packages ready-to-use spinach leaves
1/4 cup water
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 tablespoons chopped garlic
1/2 cup dried currants
3 tablespoons drained capers
1/2 cup coarsely grated Romano cheese

Steps:

  • Combine spinach and 1/4 cup water in heavy large pot over high heat. Toss until spinach wilts but is still bright green, about 3 minutes. Transfer spinach to colander; press to release excess liquid.
  • Heat oil in same pot over medium heat. Add garlic; stir until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Add currants and capers and stir 1 minute. Mix in spinach, then cheese and toss until heated through, about 1 minute. Season spinach to taste with salt and pepper and serve.

Tips:

  • Choose fresh, tender spinach: Look for spinach with deep green leaves and no signs of wilting or yellowing.
  • Wash the spinach thoroughly: Rinse the spinach in cold water several times to remove any dirt or grit.
  • Remove the tough stems: Cut off the tough stems from the spinach leaves. This will make the spinach more tender and easier to eat.
  • Use a large skillet: A large skillet will help to ensure that the spinach cooks evenly and doesn't overcrowd the pan.
  • Cook the spinach over medium heat: Medium heat will help to prevent the spinach from burning.
  • Stir the spinach frequently: Stir the spinach frequently to help it cook evenly and prevent it from sticking to the pan.
  • Season the spinach to taste: Season the spinach with salt, pepper, and other seasonings to taste.
  • Serve the spinach immediately: Spinach is best served immediately after cooking. If you need to store the spinach, place it in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
