Tips:
- Choose high-quality Italian sausage: Look for sausage made with fresh, flavorful pork and a blend of herbs and spices. Avoid sausages that are overly processed or contain fillers.
- Use a variety of vegetables: This recipe is a great way to use up leftover vegetables. Feel free to add or substitute your favorites. Some good options include broccoli, zucchini, carrots, and bell peppers.
- Don't overcook the rice: The rice should be cooked through but still have a slight bite to it. Overcooked rice will make the casserole mushy.
- Use a good quality cheese: The cheese is one of the key flavor components in this dish. Use a cheese that melts well and has a sharp flavor, such as cheddar, mozzarella, or Parmesan.
- Serve with your favorite sides: This casserole is a hearty and filling meal on its own, but it can also be served with a side salad or soup.
