Tips:

  • Choose the right type of meat: A combination of ground beef and pork is commonly used for Italian meatballs, as it provides a balance of flavor and texture. You can also use ground lamb or turkey for a healthier option.
  • Season the meatballs well: Use a combination of Italian herbs and spices, such as garlic, onion, parsley, basil, oregano, and thyme, to flavor the meatballs. Don't be afraid to adjust the seasonings to your own taste.
  • Use fresh bread crumbs: Fresh bread crumbs help to bind the meatballs together and give them a light and airy texture. You can make your own bread crumbs by grating stale bread or using a food processor.
  • Don't overmix the meatball mixture: Overmixing can make the meatballs tough. Mix the ingredients just until they are combined.
  • Form the meatballs into uniform sizes: This will help them cook evenly. Use a cookie scoop or your hands to form the meatballs into 1-inch balls.
  • Pan-fry the meatballs before skewering: Pan-frying the meatballs will help to seal in the juices and prevent them from drying out on the skewers.
  • Use a variety of vegetables for the skewers: Cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, and zucchini are all good choices. You can also add fresh herbs, such as basil or rosemary, to the skewers.
  • Cook the skewers over medium heat: This will help to prevent the meatballs and vegetables from burning.
  • Serve the skewers with your favorite dipping sauce: Marinara sauce, pesto, or tzatziki sauce are all good options.
