Dressing #1 (Low-Sodium Italian Dressing) image

I make salad dressings since commercial ones contain way too much sodium. This is a recipe from Betty Crocker's Cookbook, but I reduced the sodium, sugar, and substituted roasted garlic for raw.

Time 5m

Yield 1 1/2 cups

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 cup olive oil
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/4 cup white wine vinegar
1 pinch salt
1 pinch sugar
1/2 teaspoon oregano leaves
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/8 teaspoon thyme leaves
4 cloves roasted garlic

Steps:

  • Blend all ingredients.
  • Refrigerate 2 hours, if possible, before serving.
  • Shake before serving.

Tips:

  • Use fresh herbs: Fresh herbs like basil, oregano, and thyme will give your dressing a more vibrant flavor than dried herbs.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment: You can customize your dressing to your liking by adding different herbs, spices, or even fruits.
  • Make a large batch: Italian dressing can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks, so it's a great option to make ahead of time.
  • Use a good quality olive oil: The olive oil is the base of your dressing, so it's important to use a good quality oil that has a nice flavor.
  • Let the dressing rest: After you make your dressing, let it rest for at least 30 minutes before using it. This will allow the flavors to meld together.

Conclusion:

Italian dressing is a versatile and delicious dressing that can be used on a variety of salads, vegetables, and even meats. It's easy to make at home and can be tailored to your liking. So next time you're looking for a flavorful and healthy dressing, give this low-sodium Italian dressing a try.
