ITALIAN INN CHEESE SPREAD

Italian Inn Cheese Spread image

This recipe is from the Italian Inn in Tulsa, OK. After over 40 years in business they closed their doors. They were famous for their cheese spread that was served before every entree with antipasto and fresh hot breadsticks. They sold as much of the cheese and breadsticks to go as eating in. The cheese is the key to this recipe, and they ordered it from Wisconsin.

ITALIAN CHEESE SPREAD

Italian Cheese Spread image

My cousin brought this home when she came back from married military life. Now I think I make it more then she does. Everyone that has it wants more. I have no idea what the name of it originally was but we in Maine have named it Italian Cheese Spread because it tastes like eating an Italian on a cracker. An Italian is what we...

Time 15m

Number Of Ingredients 5

8 oz softened cream cheese
1 pkg carl budding beef (named brand pkg meat)
1 medium green pepper
1 small onion
ritz crackers

Steps:

  • 1. Dice up the green pepper and onion. I cut the beef into tiny pieces. I also use my mixer as I always double this recipe. Combine the meat and cheese and mix. Add as much onion to taste as you prefer. Add the green pepper for looks and taste. Make sure your veggies are small or it will not spread well. Chill and serve on Ritz crackers.
  • 2. Carl Budding beef is found in your grocery store prepackaged deli meat section. I have never substituted with Hillshire Farms or anything else so I do no know if your flavors or amounts would be the same. Also the cracker is Ritz to have the result of an italian sandwich. If you have never had an italian you may find the cracker does not matter.

Tips:

  • To make the smoothest cheese spread, use a food processor or blender. If you don't have one, you can grate the cheese and mix it with the other ingredients by hand, but it will take a bit more effort.
  • If you're using a hard cheese, such as Parmesan or Asiago, grate it finely before adding it to the spread. This will help it blend more easily.
  • If you're using a soft cheese, such as cream cheese or goat cheese, you can simply mash it with a fork before adding it to the spread.
  • Add your favorite herbs, spices, and seasonings to taste. Some popular options include garlic, onion, paprika, chili powder, and Italian seasoning.
  • If you're making the spread ahead of time, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. You can also freeze the spread for up to 2 months.

Conclusion:

Italian cheese spread is a delicious and versatile appetizer or snack. It's easy to make and can be customized to your own taste. Serve it with crackers, bread, or vegetables, or use it as a filling for sandwiches or wraps. Enjoy!
