Teriyaki Burger image

We call Teriyaki Burgers, "Teri Burgers" in Hawaii! You can find them on the menu at many local restaurants, and they are also fun and easy to make at home! We mix homemade teriyaki sauce into the beef patty mixture, and then brush the patty with more sauce while cooking the burgers. Pair with cheese, onions, tomatoes, and a nice toasty bun for a super onolicious meal ^_^

Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 pound ground beef
½ of a medium onion, diced
¼ cup sugar
¼ cup soy sauce
¼ cup water
3 cloves garlic, smashed
1-inch knob of ginger, smashed
4 burger buns, toasted
Optional: American cheese, sliced tomatoes, and onions

Steps:

  • Mix together the ground beef and diced onions in a mixing bowl. Set aside.
  • Make the teriyaki sauce next. In a small pot, combine the sugar, soy sauce, water, garlic, and ginger. Warm over medium-low heat for 5 minutes until all the sugar is dissolved and the ginger and garlic has flavored the sauce. Remove from heat and let cool. Strain out the ginger and garlic.
  • Mix half of the teriyaki sauce mixture into the ground beef mixture. Form into four patties.
  • Pan fry or grill each patty for a few minutes on each side until nice and browned. Brush each side of the patty with the remaining teriyaki sauce while cooking.
  • Place a slice of cheese on the patty and let warm/melt for 30 seconds.
  • Slide the patties onto toasted buns. Add onions, tomatoes, and lettuce (optional). Eat hot and enjoy!

GENUINE HAWAIIAN TERIYAKI SAUCE

Time 20m

Yield 1 2 cups, 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 cup soy sauce
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon grated ginger, very fine
1 large garlic clove, minced
3 scallions, chopped fine

Steps:

  • Mix soy and sugar in small sauce pan over low heat just enough to dissolve sugar. Remove from heat and add remaining ingredients.
  • Let cool and store in a glass jar in refrigerator.
  • A light inexpensive soy works well for this, just make sure it is real not one with caramel coloring as an ingredient. Tamari is a bit too heavy for this, though will work in a pinch.
  • I use my parmesan cheese grater to grate ginger--comes out well that way.
  • This is also great on noodles, tofu, vegetables, added to stir frys, besides grilled meats and burgers.

Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 1/2 lb ground beef
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 egg
1/2 c cracker crumbs or bread crumbs
1/4 c soy sauce or tamari sauce
1/2 Tbsp sugar
2 clove garlic, minced
1/4 tsp fresh ginger, minced
2 stalk(s) green onion, chopped
1 Tbsp sesame oil

Steps:

  • 1. Combine all ingredients and mix well. Form into patties. Fry or grill to desired doneness. Serve with buns, vegetables and condiments.

Tips:

  • For the best flavor, use fresh pineapple. If you don't have fresh pineapple, you can use canned pineapple, but be sure to drain it well.
  • If you don't have any teriyaki sauce, you can make your own by combining soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, and ginger.
  • If you don't have any sesame seeds, you can use chopped peanuts or slivered almonds.

  • When you're ready to serve the burgers, reheat them in a preheated oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 10 minutes, or until they're heated through.
