IOWA MAID-RITES

Iowa Maid-Rites image

I came up with my own version of Iowa MaidRites which also are called 'loose meat' sandwiches. Very versatile, leftover beef can be used for spaghetti or taco filling, or it can be frozen for later use.

MAID RITES (LOOSE MEAT SANDWICHES)

Maid Rites (loose meat sandwiches) image

If you have ever been to the Mid-West or watched Rosanne you probably have heard of Maid-Rite also known as the loose meat sandwich. It's a kind of sloppy joe without the red sauce. It is served with mustard, pickle and onion but I do like mine with ketchup on it too. Not sure where this recipe comes from originally....

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ground beef. Look for beef that is 80% lean or higher for the best flavor and texture.
  • Don't overcook the beef. Ground beef is best when it is cooked to an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Use a cast iron skillet or griddle. Cast iron skillets and griddles provide even heat distribution and help to create a crispy crust on the beef.
  • Season the beef liberally. Use a variety of seasonings, such as salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika, to add flavor to the beef.
  • Use fresh buns. Fresh buns will help to hold the sandwich together and provide a delicious contrast to the crispy beef.
  • Add your favorite toppings. Common toppings for maid rites include cheese, pickles, onions, and ketchup.

Conclusion:

Maid rites are a delicious and easy-to-make sandwich that is perfect for a quick lunch or dinner. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a sandwich that is sure to please everyone. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy meal, give maid rites a try.
