Pressure cooking rice enriches and intensifies the flavor of the stock and herbs. Wild rice is firm on the outside, soft in the middle, and its texture blends nicely with softer brown rice. This is a tasty side dish for chicken, turkey, pork, and fish.

Tips:

  • Use a good quality broth. The broth is the base of the pilaf, so it's important to use a good quality one. Look for a broth that is low in sodium and has a rich flavor. If you don't have any broth on hand, you can use water, but the flavor of the pilaf will be less intense.
  • Rinse the wild rice and barley before cooking. This will help to remove any dirt or debris and ensure that the grains cook evenly.
  • Don't overcook the pilaf. Wild rice and barley can both take a little longer to cook than white rice, so it's important to keep an eye on the pilaf and avoid overcooking it. The rice should be tender but still have a slight chew to it.
  • Add your favorite vegetables and herbs. This pilaf is a great way to use up leftover vegetables, so feel free to add whatever you have on hand. Some good options include carrots, celery, onions, mushrooms, and zucchini. You can also add fresh herbs, such as parsley, thyme, or rosemary, for extra flavor.
  • Serve the pilaf with your favorite protein. This pilaf is a great side dish for chicken, fish, or beef. You can also serve it as a main course with a side salad.

Conclusion:

This Instant Pot Wild Rice and Barley Pilaf is a delicious and easy side dish that is perfect for any occasion. It's made with simple ingredients and can be customized to your liking. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy side dish, give this recipe a try!
