INSTANT POT® HONEY-GLAZED HAM

Instant Pot® Honey-Glazed Ham image

This recipe is for a bone-in, spiral-cut, pre-cooked ham. When you buy a spiral ham at the grocery store, it's almost always already fully cooked which means most of the time you just need to heat it through. The ham's packaging comes with suggestions about how long to cook or heat the ham and those suggestions always recommend using an oven. I'm here to tell you that I don't think I'll ever use an oven to warm a bone-in, spiral ham ever again after using an Instant Pot®!

Time 1h

Yield 24

Number Of Ingredients 10

¼ cup water
6 ½ pounds bone-in, spiral-cut ham
1 cup brown sugar
½ cup honey
2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground ginger
1 pinch freshly grated nutmeg
1 pinch ground cloves

Steps:

  • Pour water into the steel basin of a multi-functional pressure cooker (such as Instant Pot®). Place the ham, sliced side-down, into the pot.
  • Mix brown sugar, honey, mustard, Worcestershire, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves together in a bowl. Pour glaze on top of the ham. Close and lock the lid.
  • Select high pressure according to manufacturer's instructions; set timer for 10 minutes. Allow 10 to 15 minutes for pressure to build.
  • Release pressure using the natural-release method according to manufacturer's instructions for 10 minutes. Release any remaining pressure carefully using the quick-release method according to manufacturer's instructions, about 5 minutes. Unlock and remove the lid.
  • Drain liquid from the pot into a bowl and set aside. Allow ham to rest for at least 10 minutes; remove to a platter.
  • Select Saute function and add the liquid back into the pot. Cook until reduced to your liking, 5 to 10 minutes. Pour sweet sauce on top of ham slices when serving.

Categories     main-dish

Time 1h35m

Yield 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 1/2 cups honey
1/2 cup bitter orange marmalade
1/3 cup grainy Dijon mustard
1/4 cup rye whiskey
One 7- to 8-pound spiral-cut smoked half ham (if you can't find a half ham, ask your butcher to cut the ham to fit the Instant Pot®)

Steps:

  • Whisk together the honey, marmalade, mustard and whiskey in a medium bowl until completely combined. Using the Instant Pot® metal insert as a guide, trim the ham to fit; reserve the trimmings for another use. Place two 24-inch pieces of twine criss-crossing one another on a clean work surface and place a 24-inch piece of heavy-duty foil over the top of the twine. Place the ham cut-side down in the center of the foil. Fold the corners up over the shank end (the narrow end of the ham bone) so that most of the ham is covered with foil. Take the 2 ends of one piece of twine and tie them into a tight knot around the ham. Repeat with the remaining twine so that you have 2 twine handles to support and lift the ham.
  • Set a rack inside the pot and add 2 cups water. Using the twine handles, place the ham inside the pot. Fold open the foil corners so that the ham is exposed and pour the honey mixture over the ham. Fold closed the foil corners so that the ham is covered. Follow the manufacturer's guide for locking the lid and preparing to cook. Set to pressure cook on high pressure for 10 minutes (see Cook's Note).
  • After the pressure-cook cycle is complete, follow the manufacturer's guide for quick release and wait until the quick-release cycle is complete. Be careful of any remaining steam, unlock and remove the lid.
  • Lift the ham out of the pot, place in a large bowl and carefully drain the glaze and cooking juices; transfer the ham to a rimmed baking sheet, cover with foil and let sit until ready to glaze.
  • Remove the rack from the pot and discard the water. Place the pot back in the base, set to saute on high and add the glaze. Cook until reduced, thick and syrupy, about 25 minutes. Brush the glaze over the ham and inside each slice; serve.

Tips:

  • Choose the right ham: For this recipe, it's best to use a fully cooked ham that is at least 5 pounds. A larger ham will give you more leftovers.
  • Score the ham: Use a sharp knife to score the ham in a diamond pattern. This will help the glaze penetrate the ham and give it more flavor.
  • Make the glaze in advance: The glaze can be made up to 24 hours in advance. This will give the flavors time to meld together.
  • Preheat the Instant Pot: Make sure the Instant Pot is preheated to the correct temperature before adding the ham. This will help the ham cook evenly.
  • Deglaze the pot: After cooking the ham, deglaze the pot with a little bit of water or broth. This will help loosen any browned bits and make a delicious sauce.

Conclusion:

This Instant Pot Honey Sriracha Glazed Ham is a delicious and easy way to cook ham for your next holiday or special occasion. The ham is cooked to perfection in the Instant Pot, and the honey sriracha glaze gives it a sweet and spicy flavor that is sure to please everyone. Serve the ham with your favorite sides and enjoy!
