INFUSED VODKA

Time 3h10m

Number Of Ingredients 6

High-quality vodka
1 lemon
1 lime
1 orange
High-quality vodka
Whole peppers, such as jalapeno, habanero, or poblano (hot) , or bell peppers or sweet Italian (mild)

Steps:

  • Wash and dry the lemon, lime, and orange. Using a zester or a strong vegetable peeler, peel the skin of each citrus fruit to create narrow ribbons.;
  • When handling peppers, it's best to use rubber gloves; some varieties can sting or even burn the skin. Wash and dry the peppers and slit them lengthwise into slivers. For stronger flavor, leave the seeds intact. For milder flavor, remove. Avoid getting the juice near eyes.
  • For Both Recipes: Clean bottle in warm sudsy water. Rinse and dry. Gently place the citrus peels or peppers into the gift bottle, pour in the vodka, and cover the top of the bottle. (Do not seal at this point) Place the bottle in the refrigerator and let the ingredients steep for at least 3 hours - 2 days is better. Before giving, top off the bottle with additional vodka. (The infusion ingredients will soak up some of the vodka.) Seal the bottle with a cork or glass bottle stopper and seal with sealing wax. Tie a thin metal wire or fabric ribbon around the top of the neck, if so desired.

TOMATO INFUSED VODKA COCKTAIL

Time P7DT10m

Yield 2 servings

Number Of Ingredients 9

8 cherry tomatoes
4 basil leaves
1 lime, cut into wheels, plus 2 lime wedges, for garnish
2 to 3 dashes seafood seasoning hot sauce or your favorite hot sauce
Ice
6 ounces Tomato Infused Vodka, recipe follows
1 pound cherry tomatoes, halved
One 750-milliliter bottle vodka
1 fresh bay leaf

Steps:

  • Add 6 of the tomatoes and the basil, lime wheels and hot sauce to a cocktail shaker and muddle. Add ice and 6 ounces of the tomato-infused vodka and shake vigorously. Strain into 2 highball glasses filled with ice. Garnish the glasses with the lime wedges and remaining cherry tomatoes. Enjoy!
  • For the tomato infused vodka: To a pitcher, add the tomatoes, vodka and bay leaf. Tightly cover and place in a cool dry place to infuse for at least 1 week. Give it a shake once a day.

Tips:

  • Choose high-quality vodka: The quality of your vodka will greatly impact the final product, so it's important to choose a high-quality vodka that is smooth and has a neutral flavor.
  • Use fresh ingredients: The fresher your ingredients, the better your infused vodka will taste. When possible, use organic fruits, vegetables, and herbs.
  • Prepare your ingredients properly: Before infusing your vodka, make sure to wash and dry your ingredients thoroughly. If you are using citrus fruits, be sure to remove the pith (the white part) as it can add a bitter flavor to your vodka.
  • Use airtight containers: When infusing your vodka, it's important to use airtight containers to prevent the vodka from evaporating and to keep out any unwanted contaminants.
  • Be patient: Infusing vodka takes time. The longer you infuse your vodka, the more flavor it will absorb. Most infusions will take at least a week, but some may take longer. How long it takes to infuse vodka will depend on the type of ingredients you are using.

Conclusion:

Infused vodkas are a great way to add flavor and excitement to your favorite cocktails. With a little creativity, you can create your own unique infusions that will impress your friends and family. Whether you're looking for a refreshing summer drink or a warm and comforting winter cocktail, there's an infused vodka recipe out there for everyone. So get creative and start infusing!
