Tips:

  • Select the right potatoes: Russet potatoes are the best choice for Idaho fries because they have a high starch content, which makes them crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
  • Cut the potatoes evenly: This will help them cook evenly. If you are using a mandoline, adjust the blade to 1/4-inch thickness.
  • Soak the potatoes in cold water: This will help to remove excess starch and prevent the fries from sticking together.
  • Dry the potatoes thoroughly: This will help them to crisp up in the oil.
  • Use a high-quality oil: Olive oil, canola oil, or vegetable oil are all good choices. Avoid using butter or margarine, as they can burn easily.
  • Heat the oil to the right temperature: The ideal temperature for frying Idaho fries is 350°F (175°C). If the oil is too hot, the fries will burn on the outside before they are cooked through. If the oil is too cold, the fries will absorb too much oil and become greasy.
  • Fry the potatoes in batches: Do not overcrowd the pan, or the fries will not cook evenly. Fry the potatoes in batches until they are golden brown and crispy.
  • Drain the fries on paper towels: This will help to remove excess oil.
  • Season the fries: Sprinkle the fries with salt, pepper, and any other desired seasonings while they are still hot.
  • Serve the fries immediately: Idaho fries are best served hot and crispy.

Conclusion:

Idaho fries are a delicious and versatile side dish that can be enjoyed with a variety of meals. They are easy to make at home, and with a few simple tips, you can achieve perfect results every time. Whether you are serving them with burgers, chicken, or fish, Idaho fries are sure to be a hit.
