ICED CAPPUCCINO

Provided by Food Network

Time 15m

Yield 1 serving

Number Of Ingredients 4

3 ounces espresso
6 to 8 ice cubes
3 to 4 ounces whole milk
3 to 4 ounces milk froth, steamed and foamed

Steps:

  • Using an espresso bean grinder, grind some espresso beans to make 1 tablespoon of ground coffee. Using a commercial espresso machine, put the 1 tablespoon of ground coffee into the portafilter (the cupped handle) and tamp the grounds lightly. Insert the portafilter into the machine and place your glass or cup underneath. Set the machine for a double shot and turn it on to extract the espresso, which should be a thick golden brown crema.
  • Add 6 to 8 ice cubes to a mixing glass and pour the espresso over the cubes. Stir to bring the temperature down. Using a spoon or strainer, strain the cooled espresso into a serving glass, leaving the ice behind (if desired, ice can be included or added later). Add the cold milk to the cooled espresso in the serving glass.
  • Using the steam wand of the espresso machine, steam the whole milk so that a tight, small-bubble, microfoam is created. Using a spoon, add only the tight microfoam (about 3 to 4 ounces or an amount equal to the other parts) to the milk and espresso. Serve without any garnishes so as not to mask the delightful flavors. Serve immediately.

Love the Iced Capps at Tim Horton's? This is my homemade version. Great for GERD sufferers. Will wash away heartburn and ease esophageal spasms. It's also great for Diabetics and for dieters.

Provided by Dawn Cochrane

Categories     Other Drinks

Time 10m

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 c milk - any type - 2%, whole, 1% or skim, white or chocolate (tim horton's uses coffee cream)
1 c water - more economical but you can use 3 c of milk if you prefer
1/2 c splenda or white sugar (or use 1/4 c white sugar/ 1/4 c splenda)
1 Tbsp instant coffee (regular or decaf)
1 Tbsp vanilla extract
2 c ice (adjust to get the thickness you like)

Steps:

  • 1. In a 5 cup Blender Jar - pour milk and water then add coffee, vanilla and sweetener/sugar
  • 2. Add enough ice cubes to bring liquid level up to the 5 cup mark (approx 16 -20). If you want a thicker drink use more ice. Blend on high speed 10-20 seconds (depending on blender's power) to finely crush the ice.
  • 3. Pour, or spoon, into glasses and serve immediately. I use plastic glasses and freeze extras for later use. I have found it best to drink with a straw when I'm suffering heartburn and to eat it with a spoon when I'm having esophageal spasms. Once frozen, you can remove from the freezer and microwave on High for 30 seconds to 1 minute and enjoy.
  • 4. IMPORTANT NOTE: Splenda is not calorie free! It contains carbohydrate fillers to give it volume so Diabetics beware. It is made with sugar modified so your body thinks it is chlorine. Search Google for more information.

Tips:

  • For a classic iced cappuccino, use a 1:1 ratio of espresso and milk. Adjust the ratio to your taste preferences for a stronger or milder coffee flavor.
  • Use freshly ground coffee beans for the best flavor. Pre-ground coffee can be used, but it will not produce as rich a flavor.
  • Chill the milk and the espresso before making the cappuccino. This will help to create a cold, refreshing drink.
  • If you don't have an espresso machine, you can make espresso using a Moka pot or an Aeropress. Or, you can use strong coffee brewed with a French press or drip coffee maker.
  • To create a foamy topping, use a milk frother or whisk the milk vigorously until it is frothy. You can also use canned or store-bought foam.
  • Garnish your cappuccino with a sprinkle of cocoa powder, cinnamon, or grated chocolate for extra flavor and visual appeal.

Conclusion:

An iced cappuccino is a delicious and refreshing coffee drink that is perfect for enjoying on a hot day. It is easy to make at home with just a few simple ingredients. With a little practice, you can make a cappuccino that rivals those served at your favorite coffee shop. So next time you are craving a cold, creamy coffee drink, give this iced cappuccino recipe a try. You won't be disappointed!
