Time 30m

Yield 4 to 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 6

Olive oil, for frying
1 cup buttermilk
2 cups Italian-style bread crumbs
1 box store-bought cheese ravioli (about 24 ravioli)
1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan
1 jar store bought marinara sauce, heated, for dipping

Steps:

  • Pour enough olive oil into a large frying pan to reach a depth of 2 inches. Heat the oil over medium heat until a deep-fry thermometer registers 325 degrees F.
  • While the oil is heating, put the buttermilk and the bread crumbs in separate shallow bowls. Working in batches, dip ravioli in buttermilk to coat completely. Allow the excess buttermilk to drip back into the bowl. Dredge ravioli in the bread crumbs. Place the ravioli on a baking sheet, and continue with the remaining ravioli.
  • When the oil is hot, fry the ravioli in batches, turning occasionally, until golden brown, about 3 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the fried ravioli to paper towels to drain.
  • Sprinkle the fried ravioli with Parmesan and serve with a bowl of warmed marinara sauce for dipping.

Tips:

  • Choose the right ravioli: Look for ravioli with a sturdy filling that will hold its shape when fried. Meat-filled ravioli, such as beef or cheese ravioli, work well. Avoid ravioli with delicate fillings, such as seafood or vegetables, as these may fall apart during frying.
  • Thaw the ravioli properly: Before frying, thaw the ravioli completely in the refrigerator or under cold water. This will help prevent the ravioli from sticking together and breaking apart during frying.
  • Use a heavy-bottomed skillet: A heavy-bottomed skillet will help distribute heat evenly and prevent the ravioli from sticking. A cast iron skillet or a non-stick skillet are both good options.
  • Use enough oil: Use enough oil to cover the bottom of the skillet by at least 1/4 inch. This will help the ravioli cook evenly and prevent them from sticking.
  • Don't overcrowd the skillet: Cook the ravioli in batches, if necessary, to avoid overcrowding the skillet. Overcrowding will cause the ravioli to stick together and cook unevenly.
  • Fry the ravioli until golden brown: Cook the ravioli for 2-3 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and crispy. Flip the ravioli carefully to avoid breaking them apart.

Conclusion:

Fried ravioli is a delicious and easy appetizer or snack. By following these tips, you can make sure your fried ravioli turns out perfect every time. Serve the fried ravioli with your favorite dipping sauce, such as marinara sauce, Alfredo sauce, or ranch dressing. Enjoy!
