DR. PAT'S HOT TODDY COLD REMEDY
Okay, so our family doctor suggested this instead of prescription cough syrup for relieving the cold symptoms of the ADULTS in our family (he of course, did NOT suggest it as a CURE). He says the whisky helps you sleep while the honey and lemon soothe your throat. I'm pretty sure it works, but in the end we really don't care because we love this warm drink when we aren't feeling well. Even sometimes when we are feeling well! UPDATE: Our beloved Dr. Pat passed away November 19,2010 at the age of 59 from Melanoma so now this recipe with all of it's great reviews is even more special to our family. We will miss you forever Pat!!!

CELEBRATION HOT RUM BUTTERED CIDER - CIDER HOT TODDY
This spiced and hot rum buttered cider toddy is a wonderful drink throughout the cold winter months, and is perfect during the Festive Holiday Season as well. I use Scrumpy or local French Breton cloudy cider for this, which I believe is called Hard Cider in North America. Serve the hot rum buttered cider toddy in attractive warmed glasses and float a cinnamon stick on the top for that extra touch!

HOT TODDY
Whether you're sick in bed or fresh off the slopes, a hot toddy warms everything up. The classic formula of whiskey, sugar and hot water is like the steamy cousin of an old-fashioned, but these days, a lot of other ingredients (citrus juice, apple cider, various spices) get added in the name of innovation, with mixed results. This version cozies up to the original, with a few optional additions based on preference. First, warm the mug with hot water, which primes the vessel to hold heat longer, yielding a truly hot toddy to the last sip. Then add scotch or bourbon, or for a modern twist, rum, cognac or amaro. Stir in a little honey, maple syrup or Demerara sugar, add hot water and stir to dissolve. Garnish with lemon peel and spices, if you like.

Tips:
- Choose the right whiskey. A good hot toddy starts with a good whiskey. Look for a whiskey that is smooth and has a little bit of spice.
- Use fresh lemon juice. Fresh lemon juice will give your hot toddy a bright, citrusy flavor. Avoid using bottled lemon juice, as it will not taste as good.
- Add honey or sugar to taste. Honey and sugar are both good ways to sweeten your hot toddy. Start with a small amount and add more to taste.
- Garnish with a lemon twist or cinnamon stick. A lemon twist or cinnamon stick will add a festive touch to your hot toddy.
- Drink your hot toddy while it's hot. A hot toddy is best enjoyed hot, so drink it as soon as it's made.
Conclusion:
A hot toddy is a classic winter drink that is both comforting and delicious. It's the perfect way to warm up on a cold night or to soothe a sore throat. With just a few simple ingredients, you can make a hot toddy that will help you relax and feel better. So next time you're feeling under the weather, reach for a hot toddy. You won't be disappointed.
