HOT SPICED APPLE CIDER
I live in South Texas and as a rule, it doesn't get too cold here, except on those occasions we get a freeze... That is when this recipe tastes the best! If it isn't REALLY COLD outdoors, it just doesn't taste as good or satisfying! Some of you folks up north would love this!

Steps:
- 1. Must have a large cooking pot with a tight fitting lid. This will cook on the stove. Empty a one gallon jug of real apple cider into the pot. Turn on the heat to medium-hi heat.
- 2. Put spices into the pot, as well as the cinnamon sticks and stir well. Stir in the sugar. Cover and simmer for about 20 minutes, then reduce heat to low and simmer another 40-45 minutes, more or less... Remove the cover every 10 minutes or so to stir and cover it again.
- 3. During this time, the smells will waft through the house and bring the Holidays with it! Strain out the spices and cinnamon sticks, stir and keep warm on the stove. If it cooks down after a certain amount of time, it may taste too strong, so you may add some more apple cider to it. This is a wonderful drink to serve at your holiday parties and kids love it! I do know this will warm you like no other hot drink I know of! Bon apetit' Y'all!
Tips:
- Choose the right apples: Use a variety of apples for a more complex flavor. Some good choices include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Braeburn.
- Simmer, don't boil: Bring the cider to a simmer over medium heat. Boiling the cider will make it taste harsh and bitter.
- Add spices to taste: Start with a small amount of spices and adjust to taste. Some common spices used in apple cider include cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and allspice.
- Sweeten to taste: If you like your cider sweet, add a little honey or maple syrup. You can also use a natural sweetener like stevia or monk fruit.
- Garnish with fresh apple slices or a cinnamon stick: This will add a festive touch to your cider.
Conclusion:
Hot spiced apple cider is a delicious and comforting drink that is perfect for a cold fall or winter day. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste. Experiment with different spices and sweeteners to find the perfect combination for you. Enjoy!
