Tips:
- Use ripe, flavorful tomatoes: The quality of your tomatoes will greatly impact the taste of your salsa. Choose tomatoes that are deep red and have a sweet, slightly tangy flavor.
- Roast the tomatoes: Roasting the tomatoes intensifies their flavor and gives them a slightly smoky taste. You can roast the tomatoes in the oven or on a grill.
- Use fresh herbs: Fresh herbs, such as cilantro, basil, and oregano, add a bright, herbaceous flavor to salsa. Use a variety of herbs to create a complex flavor profile.
- Add a little bit of heat: If you like spicy salsa, add a jalapeño pepper or two to the mix. You can also use cayenne pepper or chili powder.
- Serve the salsa fresh: Salsa is best when it is served fresh. It will keep in the refrigerator for up to 5 days, but the flavor will be best if you eat it within a few hours of making it.
